Just thought I’d let people know that Darran from Freestyle Skate Store in Newport is putting on a two day sale a few weekends away. He’s a lovely guy and also a fellow FG rider

September 24th, 2010, by OzRide tracking with Endomondo
September 20th, 2010, by Tim HeyesSome of us chaps at Fixed Gear Cardiff with those fancy GPS phone thingy-majigies have started tracking our rides using a great service called Endomondo.
It’s like a MyTracks or similar service but with a bit of a social twist to it meaning that you can see your friend’s rides and stats, create routes for yourself, friends or the wider community, take part in challenges and make abusive comments against historical routes if you think that someone isn’t putting the effort in.
My absolute favourite bit is the ability to give “pep-talks” to someone while riding/running providing they’ve got their headphones in. This is clearly meant to be for motivational and encouraging remarks from friends but is just as good for on-the-go-abuse.
Check out Fixed Gear Cardiff on Endomondo here, or head over to our new Ride Tracking page using the link on the right.
Porter Alleycat Results
September 16th, 2010, by OzThe weather forecast for the day looked promising on the days leading up to the alleycat. A little drizzle at most, lucky enough this happened hours before the event. A little bit of needless panicking on my behalf caused me to forget a couple of things but it was easy enough to buy them on the way. The harder part was not taking out other shoppers with my bag full of prizes!
more after the jump…

Fixed Gear Cardiff site overhaul
September 3rd, 2010, by Tim HeyesWell, it’s long overdue but as you can see the site has finally had a bit of a refresh. There’s still a couple of bits to do, but it’s midnight and well past my beddy-byes so I’m leaving it like this for now.
Enjoy.
(if it still looks a bit yellow and manky but with a new graphic up top, just hit refresh on your browser and everything should update).
Helmets, the ever-present debate
September 2nd, 2010, by Tim HeyesIt’s definitely worth heading over to The Foot Down where there’s a very interesting and dare I say, sensible debate going on about the merits of wearing a helmet (or not).

Ty has put together a very balanced post (unusual for him
) and the comments have so far not descended into stupidity as can sometimes happen.
Head on over and voice your opinion.

FGC does the Exmouth Exodus
July 19th, 2010, by Tim HeyesFor the past 4 years, there has been a collection (or gaggle – what’s the term for a group of cyclists?) of riders that make a 100 mile journey through the night from Bristol to Exmouth,
This year, Fixed Gear Cardiff were part of that collection.
For us the ride started at Bristol Parkway which, as many of you know, is nowhere fucking near Bristol – 6 miles to be precise. Things didn’t start well with Oz losing his chain after just 3 miles.
Still, we all made it to a hotel-come-pub, the start point where a cheeky pint was necked and the final bike checkovers were done. It was nice to see some familiar faces from trackdropouts, in particular Jason who clearly knew that Cardiff was going to kick his ass that night! It was also good to see Rich, one of our polo regulars who travels from England to Wales most weekends…
We set off at about 9pm and headed over Clifton suspension bridge, each of us with an idea in our mind as to how harsh it would be. It was a mixed bunch – 13 of us intending to stick together for the distance – some fixed, some single speed, some fully geared.
